About

My name is Andrew, and I am a student at the University of South Australia. This project is designed to raise awareness about road safety by providing easy access to valuable insights from road crash and traffic offence data. The aim is to help both the public and decision-makers better understand the challenges on our roads, identify high-risk areas, and take steps to prevent accidents.

This project allows users to explore expiation notices issued for various traffic violations and view detailed road crash locations across South Australia. By visualizing this data, the tool highlights trends in traffic offences and crash hotspots, helping to encourage safer driving habits and inform policies to improve road safety.

The data used in this project is sourced from two comprehensive datasets provided by the South Australian Government:

  • Road Crash Locations in South Australia - This dataset includes detailed information about road crashes across South Australia, helping to identify crash-prone locations and analyze contributing factors.
  • Expiation Notice System Data - This dataset provides information on traffic offences and expiation notices, including offence types, penalties, and locations.

Both datasets are sourced from the Data SA Open Data Portal and are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License. This ensures the data is freely available for use and sharing, provided proper attribution is given.

By leveraging these datasets, I hope this project can serve as a useful tool to promote safer driving and support data-driven decisions for improving South Australian roads. Thank you for exploring the project, and I hope it contributes to making a difference in road safety!
